Here's the .gov site...
and Maps -- very important. I tried a Google Earth search for Marine Protected Areas and was disappointed with the substance of the result. These maps are just for California, and represent what I'd like to see organized on Google Earth. It could be there, I just didn't spend enough time looking for it. This is as close as I got: a PDF link from WWF, an organization I trust. The map is not terribly useful, due to its low resolution/size.

Before I get too far afield of Google and their fancy maps applications, I hereby make a formal request for either a feature addition and/or a MashUp:
I would like to see the tool and existing data (particularly that from the StreetView endeavor) put to use to help enforce the laws protecting cyclists. It strikes me that MyBikeLane might benefit from data integration that captures violations synchronously observed during the StreetView data collection initiative. This, in turn, might help cities justify separated bike lanes and/or justify increased enforcement of laws in 'hot zones', specific areas during specific times that see regular violations/abuse. This can be a win-win, helping the mission of 'protect and serve', while also justifying presence with ticketing revenues.
