These are the people who bring us local food; meet them here, then go meet them in person and don't forget to support them with your purchase. All foodies know, there's a world of difference between the stuf that traveled a few thousand miles and the stuff these people put their heart and soul into and got up at 2AM to bring to the local market.
Inspired by Barbara Kingsolver's Animal, Vegetable, Miracle -- this project aims to help put vivid faces with the farms that feed us and increase the web searchability of farms by incorporating images, video, and text to help SEO results for farmers who may not be in touch with the best tools or have the time to dedicate to helping people find them on the internet. We owe it to them to meet them halfway; this is my contribution to that end.
Mana Mushrooms
Mana Mushrooms is a project at the intersection of sustainable agriculture and industrial symbiosis. The business model is built around decentralized mushroom cultivation on byproducts like spent brewers' grains and woodchips. Local partnerships can be built to secure inputs at low cost and everything you need to get started can be found on the open-source oriented site, as well as hundreds of pictures describing processes and information about the results of my lab work. Most of the content has been duplicated here, on the WagN.
Gyre Sticker
A project to educate and do something about the Great Pacific Garbage Patch, a floating landfill twice the size of Texas located off the North coast of Hawaii. The LB blurb that inspired Gyre Sticker I'm slowly building a curriculum for class use. Please feel free to contribute.
