Socially responsible investment is like sustainability - it means a lot of different things to a lot of different people.
For me, it has long meant the process of investing in line with your values or NOT compromising your values to achieve investment return. For example, I feel strongly about climate change so I would not buy Exxon stock, for example, and justify my purchase by saying that I would take the returns and donate them to the Sierra Club. I believe KLD, POINT380, RMI and others have proven that we can make a profit doing things that reduce the impacts of climate change.
