Hi,

Please find a terribly didactic walk-through of how perfect a candidate I am for your open job post below as well as a comprehensive resource for more about me, my qualifications, other jobs I'm interested in which might caputre aspect of my candidacy not covered below, and how I feel about this whole application process, here

Without further ado, here's why I think I'm an exceptionally strong candidate for the Business Intelligence (BI) Senior Project Manager role, based on your description of the responsibilities and qualifications, through the lens of my experience. This will look familiar; you wrote it. I've done my best to respond efficiently in the manner I would like the ideal candidate to repsond.

Job Description

The Business Intelligence (BI) Senior Project Manager is responsible for the overall direction, coordination, implementation and tracking of the portfolio of projects executed by the BI team. The team is charged with providing actionable, timely and accurate business insights to the right people at the right time. As such, the projects for which the BI Program Manager is responsible are critical to the ongoing success of the company.

Responsibilities

  • Manage portfolio of BI projects, leading a team of data engineers, data architect, data analysts, data scientists, business owners and subject matter experts
At RMI on Project get Ready, at E Source on the Emerging Technologies Database, and with POINT380 I had opportunities to work alongside a broad range of colleagues, includig engineers, architects, analysts and scientists around data. It's part of the reason I went back to get my MBA after a few successful entrepreneurial ventures. Part of what I wanted to get from that experience was a grounding in metrics and data. As a "green guerrila" many acquaintences were unrealistic, not grounded in the business drivers I beleive can be used to reframe our environmental challenges as opportunities.

Ask anyone on my CU (Boulder) MBA teams about how I work in situations that require managing multiple projects simultaneously. Three of them who wrote recommendations for me on my LinkedIn profile speak objectively in support of my capacity to drive teams forward, contribute ideas, and communicate efectively across functions.

I have the learned, educated, and acquired skillset of being a communication chameleon, and am equally comfortable and effective communicating with business owners and SMEs. I have been called upon to do this on many occasions through my entrepreneurial experience as well as on the clock for employers.

  • Hold teams accountable for their tasks, providing guidance and leadership and some tactical support to ensure successful completion of those tasks
Coordinating and holding teams accountable is a strong suit of mine; during my MBA experience as well as my time at Bluewolf, I have leveraged my skillsets for leading teams and providing guidance. I also prefer to lead by doing:
  1. At Clear Comfort, I led by doing and helped contribute to over $250,000 in direct sales and 500K in team sales in year 1 of unit sales.
  2. At Vision Chemical, I literally rolled up my sleeves and crawled under industrial laundry machines to collect waste water from dozens of 750-pound+ loads of laundry. We pulled these samples and tweaked formulas using software unique to the hardware, which I learned for the purposes of programming Vision's load characteristics and ultimately won the approval of senior management to pilot a test location in Aurora.
  • Work with key stakeholders and team members to establish strategy, approach, scope, and timelines for small and large BI projects
I led a team on a project during my MBA program where we developed original IP of mine to create a business behind X-Lint, a widget for making clothes dryers more efficient. This required establishing strategy, scope, and timelines for small and large projects and ultimately culminated in winning the Wal-Mart Better Living Business Plan competition at the 2011 NetImpact Confernece. Read more about the X-Lint...

  • Manage program backlog and coordinate prioritization activities across technical and non-technical teams

At Bluewolf, I have managed backlogs using the proprietary Sightline backlog management tool and have helped coordinate, prioritize, and complete backlogs in an agile environment where my teams have earned two "10" Net Promoter Scores.

  • Design and implement development and support processes that help the teams/organization scale
  1. At AGT Tax & Insurance Services, I helped write sales scripts to scale the CEO's business development team beyond himself and authored swim lanes to help grow the sales organization.
  2. At KLD, I implemented Salesforce.com for the first time. This enabled me to grow and more effectively manage my pipeline and helped the organization scale through the path to their acquisition by MSCI.
  3. At Clear Comfort I helped close the majority of the first million dollars worth of sales. My contributions were direct (selling face to face alongside reps all over Texas, Colorado and Arizona) as well as indirect, collaborating with inside sales and Marketing resources to chart the course of a new to market technology: using hydroxyl radicals to disinfect pool water. I also helped build processes, reports, and combinations of software tools to yield business intelligence to inform our path as we iterated to sell to commercial and residential audiences.
  • Provide status to the senior management team and keep stakeholders apprised of key project activities

At Vision Chemical Systems, I developed and delivered the presentation that ultimately won UniFirst as a customer. To do this, I coordinated with the CEO's father in a boots-on-the-ground capacity, running uniform loads in industrial machinery, taking notes and updating load formulas and updating Vision's leadership along the way. We collaborated to deliver a successful presentation that won approval from the Senior VP to do a pilot install of Vision's technology and systems.

  • Identify, track, and mitigate risks that could have a negative impact on project timelines or deliverables

At Bluewolf, I had many opportunities to do exactly this. I was well-served by my eperience with Mana Mushrooms & X-Lint.

  • Challenge teams to deliver appropriate quality standards in all work products

We had such exceptional outcomes our first semester at CU Leeds MBA program, where I challenged our team on multiple occasions to achieve our full potential that we reunited the team in our final semester when the opportunity presented itself. We got As and top performing scores on every collaborative project we delivered.

  • Maintain enterprise data management processes, governance, standards and compliance
  1. At KLD, I implemented Salesforce.com as our CRM platform and consolidated a host of home-grown databases.
  2. Just this year, I helped a customer at Bluewolf apply data sanitation rules in advance of a CRM transition.

Qualifications

  • BS degree in Information Systems, Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, Statistics or related field or equivalent practical experience

During my undergraduate years at Wabash, I took two semesters of Statistics, including the design, execution, and delivery of my own original study to quantify the impact of color on brand perception with a focus on buying behavior. Again during my MBA at CU, I had the opportunity through X-Lint to coordinate teams from the MBA program as well as the Engineering program to build a prototype of my award-winning, patented widget to improve clothes dryer efficiency.

  • Minimum of 6 years of project and/or program manager experience

Project management has been a fundamental aspect of my experience with Bluewolf. In the 15+ years of my career, specifically the entrepreneurial work, project management has been an integral funtion where I have excelled. I'm a list-maker, I love workflowy,

  • Minimum of 2 years of experience managing information management or information delivery projects
  1. This website is a form-follows-function part of my example for this bullet; as the Development Director for Grass Commons, I helped sell product futures of this tool as an information management system.
  2. Information delivery is integral at Bluewolf where I have been fortunate enough to work on teams to win two 10 NPS scores.
  3. At KLD, I also helped our consulting group win business with household names in financial services for information delivery projects and built our compliance book of business, selling information management tools for managed account platforms.
  • Outstanding leadership and organizational skills; strong written and oral communication skills

Through the most objective, quantitative lens, I scored in the 99th percentile on my GMAT exams. More than that, I thrive in soft skills environments. I love the parts of my work where I get to interface and communicate with the customer. Any opportunity for me to learn, understand, and empathize with the customer is an opportunity to shine. I have always been exceptional at building trust and rapport, quickly. I have the trustworthiness of someone who grew up a "Justin."

One of my favorite books is "How to Win Friends and Influence People." there is power in a name and I grew up with a strong sense of fairness and equality. My earnestness and authenticity are dripping off of me. This works very much in my favor when I am working in a sales or service capacity. It also makes me a natural leader. I'm quiet, but as a friend of mine said, people get quiet to hear what I have to say. I try to be intentional and to contribute to helping everyone achieve pareto efficient outcomes. This makes me a collaborative leader. I enjoy what Round Pegg has contributed to this aspect of candidacy, confirming what I summarized here - check out my RoundPegg Assessment Culture Guide
